about
Mark Stevenson is a four-time Emmy Award-winning director, producer, and visual storyteller who helps organizations turn complex ideas into clear, credible, and engaging video.
Mark works with corporations, agencies, nonprofits, educational institutions, and healthcare organizations to produce documentary-style films, executive communications, branded content, and digital campaigns. He leads every stage of production, from defining the story and preparing interviews through directing, shooting, editing, and final delivery, working directly with executives, communications teams, agency partners, and subject-matter experts, including people with little experience on camera. He knows how to find the essential story, build trust in an interview, manage production risk, and keep a project aligned with brand standards, business objectives, budgets, and deadlines.
Mark's work for AT&T's first esports sponsorship generated more than one million social media views in four days. A film series he created for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) received national recognition from the Effie, Clio, and Jay Chiat Awards. The New York Times called the films "riveting… sincere and intimate," and HuffPost wrote that the work "shook me to my core." His work has also been recognized with four New York Emmy Awards and two New York Press Club Awards.
As founder of Uprising Productions, Mark developed concepts in response to client briefs and RFPs, presented creative approaches to brand and agency teams, and managed every phase of production for clients and partners including AT&T, Cigna, Deutsche Bank, Condé Nast, Endeavor, JWT, Tribal, Oberland, NAMI, Mothers in Charge, House of Heroes, UConn, Caltech, and CUNY.
Mark's broadcast experience includes national breaking news and feature production for CBS News, and later serving as Chief Photographer at News 12 Westchester, where he led a 25-person team of photographers and editors overseeing daily coverage, long-form features, and special projects. That newsroom background is why his branded work moves fast without losing craft.
Mark brings the judgment of a newsroom leader, the strategic perspective of an agency creative director, and the direct involvement of an independent production partner to every project.
Outside of production, Mark maintains an active studio practice as a painter and photographer, and teaches sailing on the Hudson.

Mark's eye for composition is virtually unmatched. He can see a shot, and take it in a split second that serves the subject being covered. His ability to compose cinematography is equally matched by his professorial instinct for the explanatory, and story-telling is a gift for him.

"I was knocked out by his strategic rigor, creative prowess and production nuance. Mark has that unique combination of having a clear POV and yet, able to collaborate in a team dynamic. I would work with Mark again in a nanosecond and whole-heartedly recommend him to any client, agency and/or production company!"

"Mark directed a series of interviews for the National Alliance on Mental Illness of New York City. The work is moving, and was instrumental in helping us launch the #IWILLLISTEN Campaign. It was very rewarding to work with Mark and tell these stories to help break the stigma of mental illness."
