New York Times Covers NAMI Spots Oct10

New York Times Covers NAMI Spots

I recently produced and directed a series of spots for JWT and their client NAMI – the National Alliance on Mental Illness. The campaign was covered by The New York Times. Here is part of that article: From The New York Times Advertising Section A Campaign Urges Listening to Those Torn by Mental Illness By ANDREW ADAM NEWMAN Published: October 1, 2013 … As for shooting in black-and-white, and how tightly the director, Mr. Stevenson, focused on the subjects’ faces, Mr. Lenn said it suited the subject matter. “We wanted to strip away the artifice,” Mr. Lenn said. “This is a serious, life-impacting subject, and the more intimate and sincere the stories, the more we’re going to feel an affinity for the cause.” Carol Cone, co-author of “Breakthrough Nonprofit Branding” and managing director for brand and corporate citizenship at Edelman, the public relations firm, was struck by the commercials… Ms. Cone said. “They’re riveting.” Here is a link to the campaign Facebook page: http://iwilllisten.org/ And here are the spots:       Results: Measuring the impact of #IWillListen is extremely important to NAMI-NYC Metro. Initial internal impact can be seen through social media numbers. NAMI-NYC’s Facebook “likes” have quadrupled and Twitter following has doubled since the launch. Through strategic media outreach, #IWillListen was featured in over 300 news outlets, including The New York Times and Wall Street Journal, and has received thousands of “promises to listen.”Prior to the campaign, we surveyed the public on their perceptions on mental illness. While the results were not surprising, they were troubling. We found that mental illness is currently the most stigmatized condition in our country and that 4 in 5 people think that it is harder to admit to having a mental illness than any other illness. In order to measure the effectiveness of the campaign, we will reissue this survey 6 months and 12 months after campaign launch to track progress and...
